I was at a music conference last summer in Michigan ( The Big Ticket Festival ) and in the middle of this field was a huge wooden cross. We were encouraged to write on some provided paper and place it on the cross as a means to confess a sin, repent, or pray for healing or just write to the Lord a heart-felt note to Him. By the end of that three-day event that cross was covered in paper notes.
I walked up to the cross and placed my note and after a quite moment with the Lord I began to read several other notes. This may not have seemed appropriate to do, but the notes were not signed and they could not have been linked to anyone.
My eyes began to look upon a note from a woman whose pain was obvious as I began to read her words..
“My husband of 15 years told me he wanted a divorce and has been having an affair with someone at work for several years. He says I have done nothing wrong. He just wants out. I feel unloved, abandoned and alone. What is wrong with me? I just want someone to make me feel special, wanted and loved. What am I supposed to do now?
Proverbs 30:23 says one of the fours things that trembles the earth is “an unloved married woman”. I felt so bad for her. That “sticky note” stuck with me for a long time. I found myself praying for her weeks after that weekend. I think the Lord directed me to that as I then could hold her up in prayer and ask that her marriage be restored and the Lords nature and goodness and love be tangible in her life. I prayed that forgiveness would be found in her heart.
When I read that I wanted to share with her all the Lords promises. I wanted to tell her how much she is loved and cherished. I wanted to show her how wonderful and precious she is to the Lord. I know even if I can tell her all this- they really won’t be real to her until she experiences them for herself. She needs a direct touch from heaven…and its always available to anyone who hungers for it.
He promises never to leave us or abandon us. Romans 8:37-39 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.
He promises to Love us unconditionally. Lamentations 3:23-23 , Psalm 36:5 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Your steadfast love, O LORD, extends to the heavens, your faithfulness to the clouds.
He promises that all things work together for good. Romans 8;28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,to them who are called according to His purpose.
He promises to be faithful and never-changing. Psalm 119:90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast.
He promises us about our future. Jeremiah 29:11. For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.
He has a promise for all those who are weary and burdened. Matthew 11:28-29 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
His pursuit of all of us has never really ended..so if you are running… stop…and let Him catch and embrace you.
He loves to be trusted.
His promises will never be broken.
He can do anything. He can change everything.
