Victory or Triumph – Which Do You Choose?

Occasionally when receiving several carefully placed words or a comments from someone – our entire perspective on a subject can change. When that word comes directly from the Holy Spirit to you it can penetrate right through to your inner being and can deeply pierce your soul. Conversations with friends can often give you a fresh perspective as well.               I remember a conversation I had with someone in my family and we were talking about Satan and warfare and she said “He is nothing but a cockroach with a bullhorn”.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             cockroach       I laughed out loud, but then began to think about what that really meant. She was right. He is powerful (loud) but has no real authority over us. Any authority he had been taken away from him at the cross, but the problem is that he realizes this more than many believers do. He runs over and destroys many of the lives of believers who simply do not know that they do not have to tolerate his harassment, influence, his deception and accusations.

Scripture is replete with verses regarding spiritual warfare. To ignore those verses or deny that there is a battle is irresponsible, dangerous and a disservice to you and to others.  Much of the so-called “spiritual warfare” in the church would be much healthier if the church would grasp its identity in Christ. Jesus knew exactly who He was, who He is, and who He will be forever. The authority which we have been given as believers is contained in our identity in Him. Find out and know who are, and when you step into that authority you will have the same authority as Jesus had when He spoke against the enemy. You can speak against it with the same results!

                                        ! TAKE COMMAND !

Confusing or masking our identity is Satan’s trick with the church. That was Satan’s warfare plan with Christ when he tempted him. He said to Jesus “If you are the Son of God” (Mt 4). The battle revolved around being secure in His identity…and so it is with us the church ( you & me) as well. The church often fails to recognize its authority because it does not know who they are Christ.

I give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind in on earth will be bound in Heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in Heaven. Mt 16:19

“In Him we live and move and have our being” Acts 17:28

“We abide in Him and He in us” John 15:4

“We have been seated with Him in heavenly places” Eph 2:6

Greater is He who is in me that he who is in the world” 1 John 4:4

“We should experience the truth of being more than conquers” Rom 8:37

There is no question about the church having all authority so long as we can comprehend and step into our identity. If we understand that we abide in Christ, which also means we abide in His authority, than our spiritual battles would be very different. Authority doesn’t suggest, it doesn’t ask, authority commands. Authority is exercised when there is a RIGHT to exercise and authority is exercised through our spoken word. We are not told to ask God to cast out demons, we are told to do our ourselves. We don’t have to pray to ask God (although we pray in His Name) to heal and cast out evil forces, we are encouraged exercise our authority to command those things to happen by speaking it out as Jesus did. Mt 28:18 ” All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” That authority has been given to us. In Luke 10:19 Jesus says “I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy…”. Satan recognizes our authority…the question is do we?                                                                                                                                                                         Authorized1

                                          ! STAND YOUR GROUND !

(Mt 10:8) Read what  Jesus told His disciples to do: “heal the sick, bring back the dead to life, heal those who suffer from skin diseases, and drive out demons. You have received without paying, so give without being paid.  You can decide to make it clear to Satan that you are not afraid to drive him back, triumphing over him with the use of your given and rightful authority! He may resist but just stay calm. Stand your ground. Tell him quietly and firmly “You are not welcome here, and you are leaving now. Now go! in Jesus name!

As you begin to exercise and use your authority the Holy Spirit will lead you to people and people to you that need prayer, deliverance, and healing. You will be able to set them free by the power that rests in you by the Holy Spirit. The bible says that we can even do more than Jesus did.  “Truly I say to you He who puts his faith in me will do the very works which I do, and he will do greater things than these, because I am going to the Father” John:12-13,

                                                    VICTORY VS TRIUMPH

Victory is defined as:                                                                                                                       1. defeat of an enemy or opponent                                                                                                  2. final and complete superiority in a war

Triumph is defined as:                                                                                                                    1. the feeling of exultation and happiness derived from a victory or major achievement        2. a public display or celebration                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 When we battle against Satan we rejoice because we can be victorious, but there is something on a higher level than our victory that we can rejoice over and that is triumphing. victory                                                                                                                                      We are not fighting for victory, we are fighting from victory. Jesus already fought and won the battle against Satan. Jesus now puts us inside Himself so we can walk in that same victory. We are not still fighting a battle against Satan and we are not looking for victory. The battle had been fought and won! We are enforcing and reveling in that victory which has been fought. We are currently triumphing in it!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      “He always leads us into triumph in Christ Jesus” 2 Cor 2:14.                                                                                                                                                                                                                  “Then we will shout for joy over your victory and celebrate your triumph by praising God…”. Psalm 20:5.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, you anoint my head with oil, my cup overflows” Psalm 23:5                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      He asks us to celebrate even before we take command and stand against the enemy and his strongholds!  We now can gloat, dance, sing before the enemy in triumph over His victory. In your dealings with Satan in your life – you can tell him where he can go (you have that authority). Don’t forget your victory has already been given to you…you can now revel and celebrate and triumph in it!
